In my search for quality videos related to antique furniture and Victorian furniture in general, I came across this one. It’s a video made by a restorer named Robert Whitley, who runs a restoration studio in New Hope, PA.

The video is the first of a five part series of videos in which Mr. Whitley tackles the difficult job of restoring a high end Victorian consol cabinet that has some significant damage. I myself couldn’t imagine bringing it back to its original splendor.

This first episode sets the stage for what promises to be an interesting job. Keep your eye out for the next four.

I found this article from the Santa Maria Times in California. It’s about a bed and breakfast, located in Los Alamos, CA, called the Victorian Mansion.

The Victorian Mansion was originally built in Nipomo in 1864 by Russian immmigrants. In 1880, a millionaire named Richard Langdon moved it to Los Alamos and took up the task of turning it into a fantasy house of themed suites.

The years took their toll on the Old Vic, as it is called in the article, even though it continued to operate as a B&B. Within the last few years, however, a lawyer named Rod Rigole, who had stayed in the mansion a number of times with his parents in the 90s, purchased and refurbished it.

Now the Victorian Mansion is as exotic as ever. You can choose from five themed suites. I think I’d try the Roman Suite first. The amenities in each suite, including hot tub for two, fireplace, and remote-controlled ambiance, are enticingly lavish.

Check out the article and maybe consider a visit to the Victorian Mansion Bed and Breakfast if you find yourself in the Santa Maria Valley.

Here’s a well-written article from The Grand Rapids Press about the Big Bay Point Lighthouse on Lake Superior. It’s a late Victorian lighthouse operated as a bed and breakfast. Worth a read and certainly worth a visit if you’re in the area.

Here’s an article from Antiques And The Arts Online about the Antiques Show that took place in Bridgehamptom, NY on August 14-16. Sales were so brisk that one dealer with a 22-piece furniture ensemble had to endure the teasing of other dealers when he ran out of merchandise early.

Check it out, and cheer for the happy dealers.

I came across an article called “Shall we go antiquing,” which appeared in the Daily Gleaner out of Eastern Canada. The author’s name is Lori Gallagher.

The article focuses primarily on a collector named Katrina DeWitt, who first started buying antiques in the 60s. She notes that Victorian furniture wasn’t even considered antique back then, and you could get it for a song.

For those of you who are lamenting the recent decline in market value of antique Victorian furniture, realize that its rapid rise was a recent phenomenon. It was probably ready for an adjustment regardless of the economy. Not too likely that it will ever get back to the prices of the 60s, is it? I don’t think there are too many people out there who would question its status as antique anymore.

What was Belter going for in the 60s? Victorian furniture is the real deal. Let’s just keep our eye on it and maybe we’ll catch another wave.

Much more to read about in this article, including insights into the work of a material historian. Click here to get it.

If you are going to be anywhere near Thibodaux, LA on the weekend of Sept. 11-13, you’ll definitely want to go to the Ta-Wa-Si antique show, now in its 33rd year.

You’ll find Victorian furniture and a raffle for a Victorian garnet bracelet. But there’s going to be much more, including an antique children’s book booth and a certified wine appraiser and specialist.

And all the profits are going back into the community.

Read about it here in the local Daily Comet.
